WEEK 1 ASSESSMENTS

Our CBC Winter 2021 Skills Academy Week 1 kicks off this upcoming Sunday December 5th with player assessments. ALL ASSESSMENTS WILL BE HELD AT KEN CULBERT ES IN HAMILTON, VA.

You will receive an email with your players Week 1 assessment group (e.g. Group A, B, C etc.) and the time/location. The Week 1 assessment groups are based on age, previous experience with CBC, and your inputs during registrations. We try to place siblings of similar age and skills in groups together when possible.

Our staff of professional basketball trainers will be running the players through a series of drills during the Week 1 assessments. Please don’t be concerned if the drills are too hard or too difficult or which group your player is for Week 1. The intent of Week 1 is to use very specific drills to determine your players skill level so we can place them in appropriate skills groups for Week 2.

Please show up approximately 15 minutes prior to your assessment time and check in with our admin person. Each player will be assigned a runner’s number, which we ask that YOU PIN ON THE FRONT OF THEIR SHIRT (we will supply the safety pins).

Everyone (players, parents, spectators etc.) are required to wear masks at all times inside LCPS facilities. The only exception to the rule is that players may remove their masks when actively on the court.

The assessments will run about 45-50 minutes are you are welcome and encouraged to watch. Feel free to go out on the court with your child if that helps them acclimate and get comfortable. For our new players, it’s crucial that they have a positive experience if this is their first intro to youth sports.

Please wear athletic clothing and sneakers. We recommend you bring a water bottle with your players name on it. Please DO NOT bring any basketballs. We will supply those.

WEEK 2 and BEYOND

Following the Week 1 assessments you will receive another email with your child’s belt level (more on that in a bit) and their Week 2 and beyond schedule. All training will be held on Sundays in Purcellville/Hamilton. The only things that might change a bit is the time and gym.

We use a defined curriculum with “belt” levels similar to the martial arts i.e. White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Red and Black belts. Players are placed in belts based on skill and not grade or age. White belts are players new or relatively new to the game. Black belts are HS level impact players. Players will spend multiple seasons and in some cased multiple years in a belt level.

SAFETY AND TRAINERS

The children’s safety and well-being is our number one priority. All of our trainers go through a national background check. Almost all of our Lead Trainers are former college level players and many are current/former HS or college level coaches. Our lead trainers are assisted by local HS and college players.

GOALS

Our goals are to have fun, build character and teach teamwork, sportsmanship and skills.

REFUND POLICY

If it turns out that the schedule doesn’t work for your family or that it’s just not a good fit, let us know and we’ll be happy to refund your money.
